The practice of mindfulness is becoming increasingly popular in the West, as a response to the abundance of stress. Originating in Buddhism, Jon Kabat-Zinn has secularized it to make it accessible to the greatest number of people for therapeutic purposes. Its effectiveness has been demonstrated in many areas, both physical and psychological.
But this wisdom of life can also be found in the great spiritual currents. How can we define it in relation to these currents? How can we understand its possible aberrations? What are its limits and promises? This conference is designed for Christians to see mindfulness as an opportunity, and for non-Christians to discover in Jesus of Nazareth a master of mindfulness. |
Ivan MARCIL spent several years in the semi-monastic life of the Discalced Carmelites. He completed a master's degree in theology at Laval University in Quebec City. He has specialized in Carmelite spirituality in Spain and has led university colloquia on Thérèse de Lisieux. Since 2011, he has been working as a spiritual care worker in a hospital on Montreal's South Shore. He is passionate about the enriching dialogue between Eastern spirituality and the Gospel.
