The Bodhisattva path is a path of wisdom that culminates in the realization of Buddha-nature. On this path, wisdom is inseparable from compassion. Wisdom consists in realizing the emptiness of the individual and of phenomena. This realization requires the cultivation of altruism, i.e. the cultivation of compassion and benevolence above all.
The eradication of egoism is thus the first and necessary step towards realizing our Buddha nature. In its perfect nature, the wisdom embodied by a Buddha is the union of emptiness and compassion.
Catherine COLLOBERT shows us how to awaken to compassion and wisdom in order to realize our Buddha-nature, and reveals the secrets of the Bodhisattva path (hero for enlightenment) according to the philosopher Shantideva (7th century).

Catherine COLLOBERT is a professor at the University of Ottawa (Canada). She specializes in ancient Greek and Buddhist philosophy, and teaches meditation. With colleagues, she recently created a program in contemplative studies at the University of Ottawa. She is a member of the Academy of Mindfulness and Contemplative Studies (University of Ottawa).
