Staggered between the 7th and 3rd centuries BC, the Upanishads (sacred texts) mark a double turning point in India's heritage: the beginning of a movement towards interiority and the first steps towards philosophical inquiry.
Without speaking with a single voice, they tirelessly delve into a number of fundamental questions: who are we? where do we come from? where is this world taking us in its stride? does a coherent meaning illuminate the vast universe and this small, complex world, this microcosm that we are? is peace within us and between us possible? For some 25 centuries, the Upanishads have been proposing an inner journey. But you are also invited to take a journey through the Upanishads, an itinerary that is inevitably singular, but one that is respectful of this Indian heritage. Jacques SCHEUER invites us to discover these texts of great spiritual depth, based on his own work and experience. |
